Project Thunderbolt, The LS3 V8 Miata - Part 6: Clutch Install, Engine Bay Work and Final Test Fit!
In this update, it’s time to mate the LS376/525 up to our Tremec Magnum six speed for good! But before we can join them in mechanical matrimony, we need to choose a clutch that will offer great drivability and all of the holding power we’ll need. Once again, Chevrolet Performance has an excellent, all-in-one solution to this problem with their T56 Magnum Transmission Installation Kit (Summit Racing Part# NAL-19301625). From the bell housing to the dust covers, this comprehensive OEM quality kit includes everything needed to get this important job done right.
With that all bolted up, the engine and transmission are joined and the whole assembly is bolted into our Miata for the final test fit. This important step is necessary to locate our transmission crossmember, frame rails and make sure all of our chassis modifications have been done properly. Once that all checks out, the engine assembly is removed and the modified firewall area, transmission tunnel and interior are welded together. Now we’re getting somewhere!
